System Head Start
Putnam County Head Start program provides “The Most” comprehensive child development services in “The Putnam Community” to a combination of economically disadvantaged families, a percentage of families with disabled children, and a percentage of over- income families.
Curriculum- The Creative Curriculum® for Preschool, Fifth Edition, is an early childhood curriculum that focuses on project-based investigations as a means for children to apply skills and addresses four areas of development: social/emotional, physical, cognitive, and language. The curriculum is designed to foster development of the whole child through teacher-led, small and large group activities centered around 11 interest areas (blocks, dramatic play, toys and games, art, library, discovery, sand and water, music and movement, cooking, computers, and outdoors). Research The What Works Clearinghouse (WWC) identified two studies of The Creative Curriculum® for Preschool, Fourth Edition that both fall within the scope of the Early Childhood Education topic area and meet WWC evidence standards.
Health and Nutrition -Initial and follow-up health, vision and dental services are supported. -Nutritional classroom and home activities are supported. -All classrooms implement a mental health curriculum and violence prevention programs.
Family and Community Engagement -Initial and follow-up family plans are supported. -Community partnerships are formed to support families in becoming self-reliant. Our staff looks forward to another successful year in 2018-2019, so come by, volunteer, and get involved with a team of parents and staff who have proven time and time again Putnam County Board of Education Head Start is “Teaching Children, Empowering Families and Involving the Community”!
